Year in Review: Balance

As far as years go, I’d have to say this one wasn’t terrible. Old job – gone. Midlife crisis – over. Bad habits – kicked.

It really took a turn for the better as soon as I left my old job and ridiculous boss, with the agreed upon money owed to me, and never looked back. There was a period of two months where I wondered which one of us was going to kill the other one first but at the end of it all, my strategically planned game of chicken paid off.

Finally free and with plans to be my own boss underway, I worked on ways to make sure I maintained my general good mood. Changes in diet and my promise to myself to become healthy were first on the list so I’ve focused on my cholesterol and have religiously taken to yoga three times a week. I’m very proud to say that since February, I’ve been doing just that. I noticed that, after undergoing a rather nasty health issue that left me couch and bed ridden for a year, the immediate health benefits were overwhelming. Breathing, mood, strength, toning, endurance, and problem solving have been pretty powerful to have in my arsenal when dealing with unpleasant people or dealing with bad news.

Of course, getting rid of people who were bad for me and not paying as close attention to the news certainly helped. Continuing my “After 8″ regimen of vaping marijuana from the previous difficult year has certainly helped me cope with all sorts of things. While it hasn’t been all easy, it certainly has been manageable. I’ve returned to some semblance of a social life, taken to social media with conditions, and returned to making new illustrations at a very steady clip since last December! As previously stated, 13″x19″, limited edition, fine art prints ($250) are available as are sets of 5 blank, hand-made greeting cards ($20) with any image from my portfolio. A limited quantity of hand silk-screened Splat! T-shirts ($15) are still available in small, medium, or large. Just contact me and I’ll get you taken care of!

So what does one do next? I’m not quite sure, but I have few ideas. I’ve been secretly doing some writing that I may publish in one form or another. Another idea is to finally sit down and put together a book of my work in one collection. I keep toying with a comic book idea and there is the possibility of doing commissions again, but I’m not very sold on the latter for many reasons.

Also, I have designs on submitting more work to various annual shows, attending Comic Con and Bent Con, contests, and possibly collaborating with a writer on my comic idea though this all comes after the various DIY home projects, gardening, and working out what days I have free for being social with people.

Let’s see where 2013 takes me. I hope you’ll stick around for what’s next! Thanks to everyone who supported me in spirit and in kind by purchasing prints, cards, and shirts, and all the artists and people who inspire me to be a better person and make more work! Here’s to another good year!

Glad to hear that you are feeling better and that you finished 2012 better than you found it! I have considered Yoga myself, but not done anything about it. Sounds as if it may be a good thing. I need to just get back to my running/walking/swimming routine that I used to do, but right now, as it hits 20 degrees, I hardly feel like leaving the house…. All good things to you, buddy….!
