For Your Information

I’m not taking commissioned work at the moment. I’m just happy getting back to basics after a very spotty 6 year span of not feeling very creative.

I know I said it six months ago, but for those of you who missed me saying so, I’m not taking commissioned work right now. It’s not that I won’t take an interesting project or piece on if it’s too good to pass up! It’s that I’m likely to decline offers to do tattoo designs, images with convoluted concepts, logo designs, offers to be showcased in your magazine for free and the like, for one simple reason.

I just don’t want to do things that bring me absolutely no joy whatsoever. Period.

All this stuff does nothing but distract me from what I should be doing: making illustrations and doing comic books. I love you guys and I like how excited you get over the work I produce. I sincerely appreciate it. Over the last six months I’ve been producing new work on a regular clip and it feels so good to get back into doing things I enjoy doing. Perhaps when I change the way I’m feeling, I’ll be more open to commissioned work again.

If I seem distant or I don’t go to this or that event, please don’t take it personally. While I do enjoy parting with work (what sane artist doesn’t?), be in hand-made greeting cards, the ever dwindling limited edition T-Shirts or fine art prints, it really isn’t about that for me. It is an absolute must that I create work I’m proud of and can stand behind. If you want something, please let me know. I will be happy to accommodate you.

Even if you just want to drop me a line and chit-chat, do it! I’m happy to hear from you and talk to you either via email, Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr. :)

In closing, I’ll leave you with words of wisdom from Kurt Vonnegut to sum up where I’m at:

“Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
