Geeked Out
Yesterday, I took the trolley down to the Convention Center and poked around at Comic Con. The other day I was kind of sad I didn’t pay more attention to the fact that the days I wanted to attend had been sold out online, but there were some really good trade offs to going on a Friday when everyone was toiling away at work.
One being that it is less crowded and somebody who is short, like myself, this makes for easier crowd navigation. Being jostled around by people taller than me so they can be first in line for movie trailers or meeting their comic book hero or creator of their wildest wet dream can really set my teeth on edge. Gladly, this didn’t happen very often and was typically restricted to children with too much energy and sugar for their own damn good.
By the time I had gotten down there, the first break out session I thought of going to was already in session (it was some lawyer giving the low down on copyright laws and protection of the creator), so I wandered about collecting free stuff, looking at art and comics from indy publications, and trying various software demo’s out and entering contests. I chatted with a girl who was manning the booth for GirlsDrawinGirls, which is awesome! They were on NPR yesterday too.
Most of my time was actually putting faces with names from the internet at the Prism Comics booth. Shooting the shit with the guys and girls there, buying some Hard To Swallow Comics and some comics from Class Comics, and being asked to intro Alien Boot Camp on Logo in front of the Prism Comics booth. I hope I didn’t come off retarded.
All in all, a very good time!
