Modern Love

LustI love high design. Always have. Always will. I pee a little bit when I crack the pages of Dwell Magazine (except for maybe this latest issue – not as much about modern homes but more self-congratulatory than most issues and chock full of architecture of non-dwellings), see a modern home in person, or read about architects who believe in the modernist approach.

The LA Times has a great artice on an architect I’ve never heard of before. Edward H. Fickett is a name I’d think would come up easily on the internet, but alas, I couldn’t find much. Thankfully, the LA Times provides us with a small taste of what kind of designs sprang forth from this man.

Fanorama

Fanorama #29I had the pleasure of meeting Reb on MySpace. He’s the man behind the long-running and always interesting zine, Fanorama. It’s brimming with great first-hand experiences from prison, music reviews, bands, politics, editorials on love, outstanding opinion and delicious pictures of naked punks – both straight and gay – who pose quite happily for the man behind the camera and the zine. It’s totally DIY Punk rock publishing, which lends so much credibility to the passion that goes into making each one. At issue #29, you’d be dumb not to grab yourself some of this.

Art Show. No go.

Pretty Ancient - Mark Turns 50It seems I won’t be going to Toronto June 17th for a very big shin-dig of a friend who invited me. I’m hoping to have some artwork up there to him and hung in Spin Gallery, but I just can’t make the airplane ticket price work for my budget. Have fun and enjoy! The line up looks amazing.
I’m going to just blame all the gays going up there for Pride the following week for there not being any tickets available for discount prices. Anyone going should report back to me on what was missed. I’ll be here wishing I could afford a vacation right now.

What the Hell?

BombSo I go to vote yesterday…

I didn’t get a blow job this time, but it sucked completely.

It seems when your registered party is marked as Unaffiliated in Kansas, this somehow translates poorly as Independent here in California. And somehow… someway, Independant translates to the American Independent Party and that makes me a very unhappy person.

It’s a comedy of errors really if you look at their platform and compare them to my politics, but when I inform the two women at the voting station that I want a Democrat ballot, not one for AIP – the world falls apart around your ears.

You see, I saw a commercial on television informing me that I can vote in the primary for governor as either a Democrat or Republican and I informed the uniformed ladies who wanted to give me my ballot. The maelstrom that this created in their tiny little minds, was only compounded by the error some dumb clerk made at the Department of Motor Vehicles by marking my voter registration as AIP instead of U for Unaffiliated. It didn’t help that one lady had a very thick Thai accent and the other woman had an exotic accent from Africa or that the very large black man who kept nodding at me through the whole ordeal would only say “yep!” Then, I was asked to fill out a voter registration card only to be told “I had to fill one out”, vote as a Democrat as soon as I converted to the party of spineless Democrats! Did you get all that?

I don’t think I still grasp it, but it happened. I’m now a Democrat. *shudder*
